New Google Android Market on the Web: Does it change anything?
filed in Ecosystem Android on Feb.03, 2011
Today Google Android tried to address one big problem for the Android platform: An unappealing marketplace. Granted I also do not like the iTunes marketplace but they hit a lot of things right such that it is a great experience for developers to tell the world what their application can do.
What has changed?
- Marketplace can be access via the web at this link. You would be able to purchase your application via this marketplace on the web.
- Once purchase on the web, the application gets download immediately to your phone. No wires and cables required. Everything via the cloud.
- Able to tweet or facebook or link an App you like. When you open the link in your Android Device, it takes you to the Market on your device and you can choose to install it.
- More Filtering options! This is great if you are an advanced user who wants to hit what you want.
- Change the nickname of your device
Lifehacker has a video on this:
The question is that what do you as developers think? Does it change anything? Personally I don’t but that currently is not the main problem but piracy is a bigger problem.
